Fidolus of Troyes

Who they were

At Troyes in Lugdunensian Gaul, in France, Saint Fidolus, priest, who, tradition says, was captured by King Theuderic during the invasion of the region of the Auvergne, but was ransomed by the abbot Saint Aventinus and trained by him in the service of God, and afterwards is said to have succeeded him in his office.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 16 May as a priest at Troyes who was taken captive in the Auvergne, ransomed by the abbot Saint Aventinus, and succeeded him in his office.
