Francis Mary of Camporosso

Who they were
Giovanni Croese was born at Camporosso, near Ventimiglia, on 27 December 1804, fourth of five children of a farming family. From seven he tended the family cow and worked in the fields. Gravely ill as a boy, he was taken on pilgrimage to Our Lady of Laghetto and began to frequent the Franciscans.
As a Capuchin, Brother Francis Mary, for forty years he lived among the people of Genoa, in the port and the alleys, immersed in their poverty and suffering. When plague broke out he caught it himself, offering himself as a victim for the salvation of others.
