Basque Passionist brother who was porter of the general house in Rome for almost fifty years
Who they were
Brother Gerardo Sagarduy entered the Passionist retreat at Deusto in Bilbao at seventeen and took the habit in 1889; from 1902 he lived in the congregation's general house in Rome, first as sacristan of the basilica of Saints John and Paul and from 1908 to 1956 as porter, a post in which he became known for his charity.

The nihil obstat is dated 19 June 1980 and the cognitional process was held in 1981; the Passionist Congregation lists him among its Venerables.
