Dom Gabriel Paulino Bueno Couto was a Carmelite who took part in every session of the Second Vatican Council as an auxiliary bishop and in 1966 became the first bishop of Jundiaí, where he remained until his death.

The diocese of Jundiaí, which lists him among its causes of saints, calls him Servant of God; the nihil obstat is dated 15 May 1999, the diocesan inquiry ran in 1999-2000 with a supplementary inquiry in 2016-17, declared valid on 11 May 2018.
