Gaetano Errico
Italian saint (1791–1860)
Feast: 29 October (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Gaetano Errico was born at Secondigliano, north of Naples, on 19 October 1791, third of ten children of a small pasta-maker and a felt-weaver. Ordained on 23 September 1815, he served for almost twenty years as the town schoolmaster, teaching above all Christian principles.
In 1818, while praying, he saw St Alphonsus, who told him God wanted him to found a religious congregation. He founded the Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary and promoted retreats and Eucharistic contemplation to bring souls to Christ.
