Bishop Stephen Lee Bun Sang of Macau issued the edict for the cause of the Servant of God Gaetano Nicosia SDB after the Holy See transferred competence from Hong Kong to Macau and granted the nulla osta on 21 May 2025; the first public session of the diocesan inquiry was held on 17 January 2026.
