Who they were
At Alexandria in Egypt, the commemoration of Saints Faustus, Gaius, Peter, Paul, Eusebius, Chaeremon, Lucius and two others, who, first under the emperor Decius and then under Valerian, by order of the governor Aemilianus, suffered much together with the bishop Saint Dionysius as confessors of the faith; among them Faustus also attained the palm of martyrdom under the emperor Diocletian.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 3 October as one who suffered much at Alexandria with the bishop Saint Dionysius as a confessor of the faith.
