Gaspar Bertoni

Who they were
Gaspare Bertoni was born in Verona on 9 October 1777 and was baptised by his great-uncle. Guided by his theology professor Nicola Galvani, he built his priestly work on unconditional loyalty to Pope Pius VII, then Napoleon's prisoner.
He founded the Congregation of the Sacred Stigmata of Our Lord Jesus Christ, missionaries at the service of the bishops. After an illness from which he recovered almost miraculously, he lived his last 41 years an invalid, a wonderful example of patience and trusting abandonment to God.
