Who they were
Gaston Raoult was a layman born at Le Havre on 9 December 1921 and baptised in danger of death on 12 December; he joined the Scouts in 1934 and made his promise in March 1935. Called into the compulsory labour service in April 1943 and moved to a workshop at Hagen-Haspe, he was arrested at his place of work on 9 September 1944, taken through the prisons of Dortmund and Herne to Buchenwald, and died there on 16 January 1945, aged 23. He was beatified on 13 December 2025 by Pope Leo XIV.
