Who they were
Gennaro Maria Sarnelli was born in Naples on 12 September 1702, son of the Baron of Ciorani. He graduated in civil and canon law in 1722 and practised as a lawyer until 1728, when he met another lawyer, Alfonso Maria de' Liguori.
He became a priest of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer and worked actively to help every kind of person in need.
