Who they were

Georg Michael Wittmann, born near Pleistein in Bavaria in 1760, was ordained in 1782 and after parish work taught at the seminary of Ratisbon from 1788, becoming its rector in 1802.

In forty-five years he prepared more than fifteen hundred men for the priesthood. By his zeal, charity and exemplary life he won the love of all. Auxiliary bishop from 1829 and named Bishop of Ratisbon in 1832, he died on 8 March 1833 before taking office.
