George Preca
Maltese Roman Catholic priest (1880–1962)

Who they were
George Preca was born in Valletta, Malta, on 12 February 1880; in 1888 the family moved to Ħamrun. He was ordained on 22 December 1906.
He founded the Society of Christian Doctrine (M.U.S.E.U.M.) so that lay people would bear witness to the Word of God among the people, a forerunner of the lay apostolate. Devoted to Our Lady of Good Counsel, he spread the Miraculous Medal. When named a papal chamberlain in 1952 he was mortified.
