Gerard Majella
Italian Redemptorist lay brother and saint (1729-1755)

Who they were
Gerard Majella was born at Muro Lucano on 6 April 1726 to a very poor family; his father was the village tailor. He worked as a tailor himself, and for a time as a servant to the Bishop of Lacedonia.
As a Redemptorist brother, seized by intense love for God, he lived an austere life wherever he was; his life was full of wonders. Consumed by fervour for God and souls, he died of tuberculosis at Materdomini in Caposele on 16 October 1755, aged 29.
