Giulia Salzano

Who they were
Giulia Salzano was born at Santa Maria Capua Vetere on 13 October 1846; her father, a captain of lancers of King Ferdinand II, died when she was four, and she was raised by the Sisters of Charity in the royal orphanage of San Nicola la Strada until sixteen. Qualified as a teacher, from 1865 she taught in the town school of Casoria.
She founded the Sisters Catechists of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to teach Christian doctrine and spread devotion to the Eucharist. She died on 17 May 1929, the day after examining about a hundred children for their First Communion. The people of Casoria called her 'Donna Giulietta'.
