Ghezzi was born into a noble family at Lecce and entered the Reformed Friars Minor as a lay brother, spending his life serving the poor of the city.

The Holy See gave the nihil obstat on 19 June 1982 and John Paul II authorised the decree on his heroic virtues on 18 December 2000.
