In Brittany in France, Saint Goulven, bishop, who after a hermit's life is said by tradition to have succeeded Saint Paul of Léon.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 1 July as a Breton bishop who, tradition says, succeeded Saint Paul of Léon after a hermit's life.
