Who they were
Guido Maria Conforti was born and baptised at Ravadese near Parma on 30 March 1865 and entered the seminary at eleven; after an illness he was ordained in 1888 and became vice-rector of the seminary.
He founded the Pious Society of St Francis Xavier for Foreign Missions. As Bishop of Parma, a good shepherd, he defended the faith of his people, driven by care for the evangelisation of all peoples. On the day of his episcopal consecration he took perpetual religious vows, to belong wholly to Christ.
