Who they were
An upholsterer and saddler from Buer in Westphalia, he became a Franciscan lay brother in Dortmund, where his grave became a place of pilgrimage.

Why that counted as sanctity
The bishop's informative process ran from 1934 to 1937, John XXIII made it a papal cause in 1964, the apostolic process on his virtues was held in 1965-67, and the decree on his heroic virtues was promulgated on 21 December 1991.
