Henry Walpole

Who they were

Henry Walpole, born in Norfolk in 1558 and educated at Cambridge and Gray's Inn, was converted by the death of St Edmund Campion. He studied at Reims and Rome, became a Jesuit and was ordained in Paris in 1588.

Sent to England, he was arrested on landing at Flamborough, and in the Tower was frequently and severely racked. He was executed at York on 7 April 1595.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
