Who they were
At Edirne in Thrace, also in Turkey, the holy martyrs Philip, bishop of Marmara Ereğlisi, and Hermes, a deacon: the first, at the beginning of the persecution of the emperor Diocletian, had received the order to close the church and to produce all the sacred vessels and the books kept in it; and having answered the governor Justinus that it was lawful neither for him to hand over what was asked of him nor for the governor to take it for himself, after suffering imprisonment and scourging, he was burned on the pyre together with the deacon.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 22 October as a deacon burned on the pyre with Bishop Philip at Edirne in Thrace.
