Hero of Alexandria

Who they were

At Alexandria in Egypt, the commemoration of the holy martyrs Hero, Ater and Isidore, with the young Dioscorus, twelve years old, of whom, during the persecution of Decius, the first three were sent to the pyre by the judge because, though torn by various tortures, they held out armed with an unconquered constancy in the faith; Saint Dioscorus, on the other hand, after being scourged several times, died torn to pieces.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 14 December as a martyr of Alexandria sent to the pyre in the persecution of Decius.
