Hormisdas
6th-century Italian pope and bishop of Rome, Catholic and Orthodox saint, ended the Acacian Schism and reunited the Eastern and Western churches

Who they were
Hormisdas, of a wealthy family of Frosinone, had been married before ordination; his son later became Pope Silverius. As deacon he served Pope Symmachus loyally, and was elected pope in 514.
He healed the last of the Laurentian schism in Rome and worked tirelessly to restore union with the Church of Constantinople. He died at Rome on 6 August 523.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
