Who they were
Hugh Taylor, born at Durham, went to Reims in 1582, was ordained and sent on the mission in 1585.
He was the first to suffer under the new statute making it treason for a priest to enter England, and was executed at York on 25 November 1585. The next day Marmaduke Bowes was hanged for having sheltered him.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
