Ignacy Jorge-Fernandes

Who they were
Ignatius, born in 1618, was the little son of Blessed Domingos Jorge and Blessed Isabel Fernandes. Led to martyrdom with his mother on 10 September 1622 at Nagasaki, he was urged by her to ask Blessed Carlo Spinola for his blessing; having seen her beheaded, he bared his neck to the executioner.
He is one of the 205 martyrs killed in Japan for the Catholic faith between 1617 and 1632 whom Pius IX declared Blessed on 7 July 1867.
