Ignatius of Laconi

Who they were
Vincenzo Peis was born in the province of Oristano, Sardinia, on 17 December 1701, to humble peasants. He promised God to become a Franciscan if he recovered from an illness.
As Brother Ignatius, a Capuchin, illiterate and frail, he served twenty years in various friaries, then for decades begged tirelessly through the squares and port taverns of Cagliari for the poor, bringing peace and converting sinners. Asked once about alms, he said: 'Father, it is the blood of the poor.' He died at the friary of Buoncammino on 11 May 1781.
