Who they were
Isabel Cristina Mrad Campos was born at Barbacena, Minas Gerais, Brazil, on 29 July 1962, to a family of modest means. She grew up in her parish and belonged to the youth group of the Society of St Vincent de Paul.
On 1 September 1982, aged twenty, she was killed by a man who had planned the attack; she died defending the chastity that marked her life. Her death was at once regarded as martyrdom by the faithful and by clergy.
The miracles
As a martyr, beatified without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
A young woman who gave her life rather than betray her chastity and faith.
