Who they were
Isabella, called 'the Catholic', was born at Madrigal on 22 April 1451 and brought up carefully and piously by her mother. She became Queen of Castile and, with Ferdinand of Aragon, supported Columbus's voyage of 1492.
She founded chairs at Alcalá and Salamanca, and suffered much grief in her children. She died at Medina del Campo on 26 November 1504.
