Isidro Fernández Cordero

Who they were

Isidro Fernández Cordero was born on 15 May 1893 in the parish of Santa María de Murias near Aller, came from a deeply religious family and brought up his seven children in the same way with his wife Celsa; he worked in trade and farmed a piece of land, but need drove him to work in the mine for the Hullera Española company. He was twice taken to prison in what was called the Guard Room of the Nocturnal Adoration, which also served as a school and a meeting place for the Catholic trade union, and there he was tortured.

He was beatified on 8 October 2016 by Pope Francis, among the Spanish martyrs of Nembra.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
