Ordained in 1941, he was arrested during the war and voluntarily took the place of another condemned prisoner, and is called the Slovene Kolbe.

Rome granted the nihil obstat on 26 April 2023 and Bishop Maksimilijan Matjaž opened the diocesan beatification process on 10 March 2026, the 83rd anniversary of his death, in his home parish of Gomilske; Dr Silvo Šinkovec is postulator.
