Jacobus de Voragine
Italian Dominican friar, archbishop of Genoa and author

Who they were
Jacopo of Varazze entered the Dominicans in 1244 and became famous for piety, learning, zeal and preaching. He was provincial of Lombardy for nearly twenty years.
He twice tried to refuse the archbishopric of Genoa, but was consecrated in 1292. He is best known for the Golden Legend, his collection of lives of the saints. He died on 13 July, about 1298.
The miracles
The honour paid to him, which began soon after his death, was ratified by Pope Pius VII in 1816.
