Who they were
Brother Jaime Óscar Valdés was born in Havana, Cuba, on 15 January 1891. He made his perpetual vows in the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God on 5 February 1920.
He was killed on 7 August 1936 in Valencia, one of 24 Brothers of Saint John of God killed in the persecution of 1936-1937. He was declared a martyr in 2013 and beatified at Tarragona on 13 October 2013.
