Who they were
Abouna Yaacoub El-Haddad was born at Ghazir, Lebanon, on 1 February 1875, the third of five children, and studied Arabic, French and Syriac in Beirut. Teaching Arabic at the Christian Brothers' college in Alexandria from 1892, he felt the call to the priesthood.
A Capuchin priest, he founded the Franciscan Sisters of the Cross of Lebanon.
