Vojtaššák was bishop of Spiš, was convicted in the 1951 show trial of the Slovak bishops and died at Říčany near Prague, barred from living in Slovakia.

His sentence was quashed in 1990, the Holy See gave the nihil obstat on 7 November 1996 and the cause opened on 12 December 1996; his remains were moved to the cathedral of Spišská Kapitula in 2003 in the course of the cause.
