Who they were
Jean Bernier was a layman born at Haironville on 24 June 1920 and baptised on 5 July; he enlisted in 1938, was captured on 17 June 1940 and sent to Cologne, where he became the right hand of Father Pierre Harignordoquy and made his Scout promise on 6 September 1942. On 3 October 1943 he said he felt called to the priesthood, but he was arrested by the Gestapo on 6 August 1944 and died at Emmendingen on 17 June 1945, aged 25. He was beatified on 13 December 2025 by Pope Leo XIV.
