Who they were
In the castle of Chinon in the territory of Tours in France, Saint John, priest, who, of British origin, wished for love of God to withdraw from the sight of men, and lived in prayer in a small cell built in front of the village church.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
