Jean Eudes

Who they were
John Eudes was born at Ri in Normandy on 14 November 1601 and studied with the Jesuits at Caen, so well that he spoke Latin more easily than French. In 1623 he joined the Oratory of Pierre de Bérulle, learning 'to see God in everything and before everything'.
A great preacher of missions, he founded the Eudists, and taught that Christ must live in the Christian as the head in the members, through baptism, confirmation and above all the Eucharist. In 1672, a year before St Margaret Mary's revelations, he composed liturgical texts for a feast of the Sacred Hearts and introduced it in his city. He died at Caen on 19 August 1680.

John Eudes spent his life renewing faith through missions and the formation of priests, and taught the Church to honour the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
