Jean-Joseph Lataste

Who they were
Alcide Vital Lataste was born at Cadillac, in the diocese of Bordeaux, on 5 September 1832. A tax official, he served Christ in the poor through the St Vincent de Paul conferences.
He became a Dominican, professed at Toulouse on 10 May 1859 and ordained at Marseille on 8 February 1863, and founded the Dominican Sisters of Bethany for the apostolate among the suffering and the outcast.

When he was gravely ill, the Dominican Sisters of Bethany of Sart-Risbart, to which his daughter belonged, made a novena to their founder, and he was healed.
Why that counted as sanctity
A Dominican who saw the dignity of the outcast and opened a way of consecrated life to them.
