Why that counted as sanctity
Jean Merlin was a permanent deacon of Paris known for his service to the poorest; it was reportedly a communist activist who first asked the archbishop of Paris to open his cause. The diocesan inquiry opened on 8 March 2006 and closed on 14 January 2024, with the nihil obstat in 2010.
