Who they were
Jeanne Delanoue was born at Saumur on 18 June 1666, the last of twelve children of a family with a small haberdashery near the shrine of Notre-Dame-des-Ardilliers. Her father died when she was six, and she helped her mother run the shop.
Firmly trusting in divine Providence, she took into her home orphans, the old, the sick and prostitutes, and with companions founded the Sisters of St Anne of Providence.
