Who they were
Juan Macías was born on 2 March 1585 at Ribera del Fresno in Extremadura. From six or seven he herded pigs and sheep, and was soon orphaned of both parents and taken in with a little sister by a relative, learning to live absorbed in God while he worked.
As a Dominican, for many years he did the humblest tasks, cared zealously for the poor and the sick, and prayed the Rosary constantly for the souls of the dead.
