Who they were
John of Fermo joined the Franciscans at thirteen and was sent to La Verna, where St Francis had received the stigmata; he spent many years there in solitude, penance and contemplation, with ecstasies and visions.
In later years he preached across Italy, working wonders. He gave the last sacraments to his friend Jacopone of Todi. He died at La Verna on 10 August 1322, and many miracles followed at his tomb.

Pope Leo XIII approved in 1880 the honour long paid to him as Blessed.
