John of Nepomuk

Who they were
John of Nepomuk was a priest in Prague, a parish priest who held several church offices and was made a canon of St Vitus's cathedral.
Defending the Church, he suffered many insults from King Wenceslas IV; tortured, he was finally thrown alive into the Vltava in 1393. Two stories of his death have come down to us, but both end in martyrdom, and suspicion of who had ordered the murder spread at once.
