Who they were
John of Parma taught theology at Bologna, Naples and Paris and was famous for learning and holiness. In 1247 he was elected Minister General of the Franciscans, to the joy of St Francis's surviving companions, and worked for full observance of the rule.
At eighty, hearing that the Greeks were abandoning union with Rome, he set out to work for it, but died at Camerino on 19 March 1289.
