Who they were
At Winchester in England, Blessed Giovanni Slade, martyr, was hanged on the gallows and cruelly disembowelled for having refused the authority of Queen Elizabeth I in spiritual matters.
The Acta Apostolicae Sedis record him as a layman from the county of Dorset who died at Winchester on 30 October 1583.
