Who they were
John Stone, an Austin Friar of Canterbury and doctor of divinity, held firmly and wished to die for the truth that the king could not be head of the Church of England.
In prison, after three days' fast, he heard a voice calling him by name and urging him to suffer with constancy. He was executed at Canterbury, probably in December 1539.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
