John Thulis

Who they were

John Thules, born at Up Holland in Lancashire, studied at Reims and Rome, was ordained and sent on the mission in 1592. He was imprisoned at Wisbech and later worked in Lancashire.

Arrested and held at Lancaster, he escaped with the weaver Roger Wrenno and was recaptured. In prison with thieves, he converted four of them, who died with him. He was executed at Lancaster on 18 March 1616.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
