Born in Asturias, he spent more than fifty years as a Dominican missionary among the Harakbut and Ese Eja peoples of Madre de Dios in the Peruvian Amazon, who called him Apaktone, 'old father'.

The Dominican missions' cultural centre in Lima records that the Catholic Church has given him the title Servant of God and awaits his beatification; the cause was opened in 2007.
