Who they were
José Becerra Sánchez was born at Alhama de Granada on 7 March 1875 and ordained priest on 26 March 1902; imprisoned and ill-treated, he was killed on an unrecorded day in August 1936 after offering himself in place of a boy. He was beatified on 26 February 2022 by Pope Francis among Cayetano Giménez Martín and fifteen companions.
The miracles
As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
The decree on martyrdom records that he was put to death in hatred of the faith during the persecution of the Church in Spain.
