José Castaño Galera was born on 8 November 1870 at Bédar, in the province and diocese of Almería, and was ordained priest in 1896.
He was killed on 8 September 1936 at La Cuesta on the shore of Bédar, and Pope Francis beatified him on 25 March 2017 among José Álvarez-Benavides de la Torre and 114 companions, diocesan priests and lay faithful killed between 1936 and 1938.
