José María González Solís

Who they were

José María González Solís was born on 15 January 1877 in the Asturian village the decree names as Sanctobalneo de Muriis, near Alloria, and was baptised the same day; he made his religious profession in the Dominican priory of Corias on 3 January 1894 and was ordained priest on 10 March 1900. He taught for many years at the College of St Joseph at Vergara in Guipuzcoa and then at Segovia and Valladolid, served in the priories of Padron near A Coruna and of Salamanca, and from 1926 was provincial bursar at the priory of Madrid; he had come to the house of the Dominican nuns at Quejana on 1 July 1936 to rest because of poor health and to preach a retreat, and he was beatified on 13 October 2013 by Pope Francis.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

He had come to the convent at Quejana only to rest and preach a retreat, and was taken there with the priest he joined.
